EcoGlove Europe announced today that it has become a member of the European Association for Medical Devices Reprocessing, EAMDR. In doing so, it is joining the growing group of companies pioneering safe, clean and fully controlled reprocessing of medical devices.
EcoGlove has made it possible for medical “disposable” gloves to enter the category of reusable devices, providing a number of exceptional benefits for the user, and making inroads into the some 4 billion of tons of waste that disposable gloves presently generate every year.
Said Patrick Hampe, EcoGlove CEO, “Reuse rather than throwing away is a rapidly growing worldwide trend. Health care has huge potential benefits from this and EcoGlove technology is extending the reach of what can be reused. Not only that, but we making possible what previously was not – full information about what exactly is being used where and traceability down to the individual glove.”
In the words of EAMDR:
“Recent research has shown that controlled, validated reprocessing of “single-use” devices does not create any additional risk to patient or user safety. Furthermore, if hospitals are prohibited from using professional reprocessing services, they are often forced to choose between illegal (and dangerous) reprocessing, or cutting costs from other areas of healthcare.
Ever since the reform of the medical device laws in Germany, to allow this reprocessing in 2001, over six million devices have been reprocessed without a single claim.
Medical device reprocessing is one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing industries in Europe. High-quality reprocessing is part of the Lisbon Agenda aimed at strengthening the EU’s competitiveness in the world. With a European legal framework allowing reprocessing in all EU-Member States, and given that 80 % of the medical devices sold in Europe are exported; the EAMDR expects the formation of new companies and, hence, the creation of further jobs”.
EcoGlove is the inventor and developer of unique and patented technologies that provide gloves that can be used multiple times and the means to recondition them as new. An alternative to conventional disposable gloves, they provide a higher quality, safer glove, at less cost, with total elimination of disposed waste and reduced carbon footprint. The system provides glove usage statistics, management information and individual glove tracking never before available. EcoGlove products and systems are made available through a growing network of local service provider worldwide.
